Eligibility for WFH after ~6 months
Since you say you’ve been there for 6 months, that covers the minimum tenure; assuming your role duties and performance meet the criteria, you could be eligible.
Steps to Request WFH
If you want to apply for WFH, here’s what you need to do:
-
Discuss with your supervisor — Either you or your supervisor can suggest WFH. You and your supervisor should meet to consider whether your duties and the unit’s workload make WFH feasible. The Catholic University of America+1
-
Draft a WFH proposal / plan — Together with your supervisor, you need to draft a proposed WFH arrangement, with clear expectations (job duties to be done, communication plan, availability, etc.). The Catholic University of America
-
Complete the WFH Agreement — There’s a formal written WFH Agreement form that must be filled out and signed by both you and your supervisor. The Catholic University of America
-
Submit the Agreement to the Office of Human Resources (OHR) — Once signed, you send the form to OHR. OHR will review it and, if endorsed, forward to your area’s Vice President (or Provost) for final approval. The Catholic University of America+1
-
Attend WFH training — Both you and your supervisor must attend the WFH training session provided by OHR before the arrangement can begin. The Catholic University of America+1
Only after those steps are completed and approved is your WFH arrangement valid.
Responsibilities & Conditions While Working from Home
If approved, WFH comes with a set of expectations and conditions you must follow:
-
You must use your own equipment and internet, and maintain a secure workspace; the University does not supply or reimburse costs for home office setup. The Catholic University of America
-
You must use multi-factor authentication (MFA), connect via the University VPN, and use Remote Desktop (or other secure remote access) if you need to access your on-campus computer. The Catholic University of America+1
-
Store all work documents in University-provided storage (e.g., the University Google Drive), not on your personal devices. The Catholic University of America+1
-
Your home workspace must be safe, free of hazards, and reasonably distraction-free. The Catholic University of America
-
During WFH days you are expected to be fully “on” — available by phone/telepresence, responsive, attend meetings, and carry out all duties as if you were on campus. The Catholic University of America+1
-
If your performance while WFH doesn’t meet expectations, the University may revoke the WFH arrangement. Reinstatement would require going through the approval process again. The Catholic University of America
What this means for you (given your background)
Because you:
-
Are full-time staff,
-
Have now been employed for about 6 months,
-
Likely have a performance evaluation already,
You appear to meet the basic eligibility for WFH — assuming your job duties (as a tech-support / product-manager supporting VIPs, students, etc.) can be done remotely without impeding service.
If you want to proceed, the next step would be to talk with your supervisor about a WFH proposal, draft the formal agreement, and plan to attend the next WFH training session (even if slightly before or after 6-month mark — training attendance doesn’t require hitting 6 months).
